The Bible is not one book. It is a library of sixty-six, written across roughly fifteen hundred years, by kings, shepherds, fishermen and doctors, on three continents.
And it tells one story: God making a people for Himself, and coming to rescue them.
Why bother reading it?
It is how God speaks. Not the only way, but the clearest and the safest. Every other impression you have gets tested against this.
It tells you who God is. Left to ourselves, we invent a god who conveniently agrees with us. Scripture introduces us to the real one.
It tells you who you are. Your identity, your worth and your purpose are all in here.
It changes you. Slowly, and often without you noticing, until one day you respond differently than you would have a year ago.
A word about difficulty
Some parts are hard. Some parts are strange. Some parts you will not understand for years.
That is not a reason to stay away — it is a reason to keep coming back. Start with what is clear, and let the clear parts light up the rest. Nobody has ever exhausted this book, and nobody has ever needed to before they could start.
