Most Christians want to talk about Jesus and freeze when the moment comes. Usually the problem is a picture in our heads of what evangelism has to look like — a debate we must win.
It is not that. It is a conversation.
Start by listening
You cannot speak to someone's life if you do not know it. Ask questions. Be genuinely curious. Most people have never had a Christian listen to them without an agenda, and that alone is remarkable.
Then be honest
You do not need answers to everything. "I do not know" is a complete and trustworthy sentence. So is "That is a good question — can I find out and come back to you?"
Honesty earns more trust than expertise.
Three low-pressure openings
- "Can I pray for you about that?" Almost nobody says no. It is kind, concrete and immediate.
- "That reminds me of something I have been learning..." Then tell the truth in one sentence.
- "Would you like to come with me on Sunday?" An invitation is not a confrontation.
Leave room
You are not responsible for the outcome. You are responsible for being faithful and kind. Plant, water, and let God do what only God does.
And expect no for a while. No is not failure — it is often part of a longer journey you are only seeing one page of.
